AAHA Accreditation

AAHA, the standard of excellence in veterinary practice

Laurier Anima-Plus Veterinary Hospital is proud to be recognized by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

What does this mean for you and your pet?

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is an international association of more than 36,000 veterinary practices. Founded in 1933, AAHA is recognized among veterinarians and pet owners for its high standards of excellence in veterinary practice and quality pet care.

AAHA is the only professional association that recognizes excellence in veterinary hospitals across Canada and the United States. Approximately 3,000 facilities agree to be evaluated on 900 criteria in the following areas: quality of care, diagnostics, pharmacy, medical record keeping, and business management. Consultants visit hospitals regularly to ensure compliance with AAHA standards.

That's why it's important for you, our pet owners, to know that your hospital is recognized for its high level of excellence in veterinary practice.

Here are just a few examples:

  • The criteria includes quality of patient care, pain control, surgery, anesthesia, communicable diseases, dental care, examination rooms, diagnostics, imaging, emergency care, pharmacy, medical record keeping and ongoing employee training.
  • The hospital must be able to provide diagnostic services such as X-rays and laboratories to make an accurate diagnosis.
  • The hospital must have an on-site pharmacy (which must meet certain standards) so that treatment can begin immediately.
  • The hospital must also be meticulous in its medical record keeping, to help veterinarians better understand the patient's file and the medical history that may affect his or her current state of health.
  • AAHA's acceptance standards are widely recognized as an assurance of the quality of care provided. These standards are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure that they meet the latest developments in veterinary medicine.
  • Being an AAHA-recognized facility encourages hospitals to stay on the cutting edge of technology and offer their patients and owners the best possible care.
