Geriatric Ferret Test

When your ferret reaches 3 years of age, we recommend an annual geriatric exam.

This geriatric consultation consists of:

Annual physical examination General assessment should be carried out 1 to 2 times per year. (weight gain, temperature, auscultation of the lungs and heart, etc.)
General diagnostics 
  • Deep abdominal palpation (allows the detection of masses, organs larger than normal)
  • Thorough examination of the ears and cleaning if necessary.
  • Chest and abdominal X-rays (help assess heart size and detect other problems early)
  • Blood test (see below)
Blood tests
  • Hematology: allows the number of red blood cells (anemia, parasites) and white blood cells (indicator of infection or chronic disease) to be assessed.
  • Biochemistry: allows the evaluation of liver, kidney, muscle enzymes, blood sugar, calcium, etc.
Complete stool analysis Allows the detection of the presence of intestinal parasites such as worms, giardia, coccidia.
Vaccine booster Annual vaccination against distemper disease, rabies and adrenal disease is strongly recommended.
Other tests

These tests are optional depending on the condition and needs of each animal.

  • Urine analysis
  • Stool or urine culture
  • Abdominal ultrasound etc.
