You have just adopted a new ferret, here is what we recommend to ensure that it is in good health:
| Physical examination |
General assessment of condition (weight gain, temperature, auscultation of lungs and heart, etc.) |
| Ear swabs |
Helps detect the presence of parasites such as ear mites. |
| Complete stool analysis |
Helps detect the presence of intestinal parasites such as worms, giardia, coccidia and others. |
| Vaccine reminders |
A total of three vaccines are administered to the ferret:
- A Distemper vaccine should be given close to the time of purchase, then a booster 1 month later is given to achieve a good level of immunity. Subsequently, this vaccine will be administered every year.
- An annual rabies vaccination is also strongly recommended.
- An annual Lupron injection to prevent adrenal gland tumors. For males, it should be between mid-December and mid-January. For females, it is from mid-January to mid-February.
